(973) 746-1200This process is used primarily on brass and copper to remove surface scale, oxidation and burs leaving the part clean and uniformly bright in appearance with a minimal of tarnish resistance. Parts range from fasteners and stampings to machine housings and valve bodies.
Bright Dipping involves immersing the parts in a solution of phosphoric, sulfuric and nitric acids which smoothens microscopic roughness, changing the texture of the surface. Often, additives are introduced to the blend to enhance its brightening ability and reduce fumes. Because it smooths out the tiniest irregularities on the surface and leveling the tiniest peaks and valleys, the brass or copper comes out with an enhanced, highly reflective sheen.
There are post-bright dip products available to increase tarnish resistance.
